Many of us have suffered excruciatingly painful losses; loved ones, friends, pets, jobs, relationships, mobility in the body, time waiting for a loved one to pass on, childhoods, the list is endless. Things that were so simple and routine before our loss such as showers, eating, sleeping, getting up, talking, etc became paralyzing and non-existent without us even noticing. The world around us moved at lightning pace and we were stuck struggling to breathe. We disconnected from our body, our emotional self, our feelings, our friends and family…our own light. Maybe we pushed ourselves back to work quickly like society says we should which may have given initial relief from the overwhelming sadness and dark abyss that the loss created in our lives. There is no wrong way to process grief and we made difficult choices to try and handle the pain.
However, grief is like a small child who doesn’t want to be ignored or brushed off. When it is treated like that it gets louder, hurt, and annoyed. Like a small child, our grief wants to be witnessed, seen, heard, accepted and loved. If we don’t allow ourselves adequate space and time for our grief it will “act out” and “throw tantrums” in our body.
I invite you to the Grief Yoga® retreat, where a safe space will be created for you to honor and witness your grief and others’ in a warm community of souls all walking their own grief journey’s. Things to look forward to:
Time to yourself. There will be planned activities but this retreat is YOUR time to welcome and honor your grief journey however it happens for you. If that means you need space, extra sleep, want to hike the grounds, need time alone then take it, no questions asked or pressure to participate. I would gently encourage you to attend the grief sessions to be supported and to support the other retreat participants. See sample schedule below.
A calm, beautiful place for your journey – Yogaville Ashram is nestled in central Virginia, near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and alongside the historic James River. The trails, serene nature, and loving staff make this the perfect place for a Grief Yoga® retreat. If you have difficulty with hills, steps, etc not to worry! Let me know and we will make arrangements for you to get to all the beautiful spots at the ashram. 😊
Lovingly prepared meals– Three vegetarian meals served each day with tea and water always available. ***If you have specific dietary needs, please let me know ASAP.
Rooms at the Lotus Guest House – There are 3 types of rooms: 1 full bed, 1 queen bed, and 2 twin beds. The rooms are assigned by check in order; first to arrive gets first pick. Some of the participants may have special considerations and those will be taken into account prior to check in. **If you require special accommodations such as type of room, 1st floor only, close to bathroom or would like to room with another participant, please let me know ASAP.
Healing Practices - Grief yoga®, breathwork, yoga nidra and guided meditations, different styles of yoga to support your nervous system, and a sound bath. Each class specifically designed in remembering and honoring your loss to rekindle your light. These practices can all be done 100% from a chair and is accessible to ALL bodies.
Welcome Goody Bag - Filled with self-care/love items to support your grief journey such as an Honor Shelf to place things that remind you of those people or things that you have lost and inspirational items that bring you hope as well as a copy of the Grief Yoga® book by its founder Paul Denniston.
JOY!!! Yes, you read this correctly. We will have moments of deep, honored reflection. We will also explore ways to brighten the light within you that is longing to shine again in safe, one-step-at-a-time ways.
Yoga Mats/Props– The ashram has items that you can borrow or you can bring your own.
Investment (Does not include transportation to and from retreat):

Refunds/Cancellations:
Full refunds (100%) given if cancellation is on or prior to July 15, 2026.
Partial refund (50%) given if cancellation is on or between July 16 – July 31, 2026.
No refunds given on or after August 1, 2026.

Getting to and from the Ashram:
Closest airports
Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) – 53 miles
Richmond International Airport (RIC) – 100 miles
Lynchburg Regional Airport (LYH) – 51 miles
- You are responsible for setting up your own means to get to the Ashram and back (see option below for return to airport).
- After I know flight info for participants, you may be able to split the cost of an Uber or rental car to get to the Ashram. **If you do have a car, I would highly suggest not leaving the Ashram during the retreat so you may get the full immersive experience of the retreat.
- There are not Ubers FROM the Ashram since it is so rural. Yogaville does offer aRETURN to the airport van for $75 per person. I would need to know NLT August 15 if you are interested in this option so I can schedule with the Ashram.

**If you have extra time after you check out you are welcome to attend any ashram classes, walk the ashram, visit the LOTUS Temple, etc. You may store your suitcases in the office.
